We have a small apartment that doesn’t get a whole lot of light, due in part to our shaded porch. Even in the daytime, our place is bathed in depressing grayness. I have to open all the windows and still turn on a lamp just to read a book.
Since we moved in, that shaded porch has been empty. My husband has done some spray painting out there, and once or twice friends have smoked their cigarettes there, but it has gone largely unused.
I decided to change that. I wanted to read in the sun, and I was sick of having an ugly porch. No, we didn’t store trash and boxes on it like some of our neighbors, but we also didn’t notice beer bottles that were left there for over a month because nobody was ever out there to see them. Plus, our apartment is tiny. We needed more space and more light.
So, I present to you my new outdoor living room:
The awesome brown dish couch was given to me by my brother as a birthday present; I think I turned 17. The purple chair was bought as a window seat in my old room, and the outdoor rugs came from Tuesday Morning for $9.95 each.
All I did was sweep the dust off the porch and unfold the furniture. We’ve already used it several times, even with guests, and I think it’s going to be one of my favorite places to be this summer.
